The traumas sustained by the brave men and women who voluntarily put their lives on the line in the service of others can be devastating when their service ends. They can feel isolated and alone despite being in a room filled with family and friends. The camaraderie they shared through the hardships of service often falls away, leaving them feeling helpless, aimless, and hopeless for a positive future. The scars can be invisible, but the pain is unbearable.
My name is Daniel Marsh. I am the co-founder and CEO of the Light For Veterans Foundation. I am one of those veterans. I suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and other physical ailments related to my experiences in war. The traumas I went through cost me a marriage and, for a long time, I felt utterly lost. Years of therapy helped, but two programs I attended changed my attitude significantly.
“Most depressed people probably don’t need medication. Even the ones who do need it, need more than just medication. Depressed people need purpose, a mission, and the power to accomplish that mission. Give a person those 3 things and they will crawl over broken glass with a smile.” (author unknown)
Each year, the Light For Veterans Foundation sponsors grassroots organizations that focus on the health and well-being of veterans and first responders.
